Conductive Coatings for Brass and Copper. A discussion started in but continuing through Q. We are a low voltage lighting manufacturer. We sell various track plated in nickel, copper and brass that is charged with 12 volts. The material plated is aluminum. We also have a brass track that we plate in copper and nickel. Burnishing is a chipless machining method which cold works the metal without cutting or abrading the surface. It removes no metal but rather compresses, or “irons-out” the peaks of a metal surface into the valleys, generating a dense and uniform surface. Roller burnishing improves surface finish and results in dimensional accuracy.

Vibratory & Burnishing Compounds. Vibratory, Burnishing and Finishing Fluids and Compounds. International Chemical Company manufactures a comprehensive line of efficient, effective and economical vibratory and burnishing compounds and fluids for metal finishing and metalworking operations such as ball burnishing, brightening, deburring, degreasing, descaling and cleaning. Burnishing Tools: Burnishing tool is the only option wherever there is need for accurate size and smooth surface finish. Burnishing tools are generally made of high Speed Steel or Carbide material, that are positioned in slots along with a retaining has .

Burnishing aims to reduce the roughness average (Ra) of the piece, hardening the surface and producing an impressive, mirror-like finish. In the burnishing process, the workpiece is brought into contact with one or more rotating steel rollers (roller burnishing) or balls (ball burnishing). The colours of clean polished metals, especially copper and brass, are a major attraction. The deep glow of a good polished finish keeps a room or, better still, a whole house looking happy. Before dealing with ways in which a good finish can be obtained and maintained, the point must be made that old copper that has acquired a patina with age.

If the brass is polished to a mirror shine, the only way I have found to get a clear invisible finish is to apply one heavy coat of lacquer. Multiple coats will cloud the finish and result in haze or orange peel.

How To Burnish Metal. If you have never heard of it before, burnishing describes the process of polishing metal in order to give it a smooth and shiny finish.

It is commonly used on softer metals, such as brass or aluminium, and is often used instead of the less precise process of diamond dragging. Follow these steps if you want to burnish your metal yourself.
